A fixed reset time for your account.

Claude's weekly limits reset at a fixed time each week that Anthropic assigns to your account, on the same day and time no matter when you start using Claude or when your subscription began; you get your full weekly allowance each cycle, and Settings > Usage shows your next reset. Hit your limit? Reason keeps going on your other connected accounts or Reason credits.

Is there a weekly limit on Claude?

Yes. Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans have weekly limits on top of the five-hour session limit, and some plans add a separate weekly limit for Fable; verified Ultra accounts have no five-hour limit, and usage-based Enterprise plans are billed on consumption instead. The weekly limit doesn't reset 7 days after you start using Claude: Anthropic resets it at a fixed day and time assigned to your account, whenever your subscription began, and Settings > Usage shows when.

How to check your Claude weekly reset time

On claude.ai and in Claude Desktop, open Settings > Usage. It shows your next weekly reset time, and under Current session, the time left in your five-hour session.

In Claude Code, the "You've hit your weekly limit" or "You've hit your session limit" message shows when that window resets, and the /usage command shows your plan usage bars. claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude Code share one usage limit, so they all reset together.

Find your reset time and keep working until then

  1. Look up your next reset

Open Settings > Usage on claude.ai. It shows the next weekly reset and the current five-hour session. In Claude Code, the weekly-limit message shows when the window resets.

  2. Decide whether to wait or pay

Until the reset you can turn on usage credits, switch to a Claude Console account billed at API rates, or upgrade; a new plan's limits apply right away.

  3. Save where the task stands

Commit your work in progress on a branch and push it, and note the goal, what is done, what is next and how to check it. Reason can't see your previous agent's conversation, so the branch and your notes carry the task.

  4. Give Reason the task in the composer

Tell Reason which repository and branch to work on, or in the Mac app which folder on your computer, then paste your notes. Pick a GPT model on your ChatGPT plan or another connected model in the composer, so the task keeps moving while your Claude Code limit resets.

Weekly limits and the five-hour limit

Weekly limits apply across all models; Max and Ultra also have a separate weekly limit for Fable. The five-hour session limit is separate and starts with your first message. Reaching the weekly limit stops you even if the current five-hour session has room, and switching models with /model doesn't restore access after a weekly limit.

Because the reset is fixed to your account, using Claude less early in the week doesn't move it. Anthropic doesn't publish one reset time for everyone: check yours.

How to avoid hitting the Claude weekly limit

Every message counts, and longer conversations, bigger attachments, tools and heavier models count for more. Anthropic's Usage limit best practices article suggests:

  1. Plan the conversation and batch related questions or tasks into one message, so Claude needs fewer back-and-forth messages.
  2. Be specific and concise, and review your prompt before sending it to avoid follow-up messages.
  3. Refer back to earlier parts of the chat instead of repeating information; on paid plans, chat search and memory carry context into new chats.
  4. Put documents you reuse in a project. Project content is cached and counts less against your limits when reused, though caches expire after a period of inactivity.
  5. Watch your session and weekly progress bars in Settings > Usage so the weekly limit doesn't surprise you.

If you run out days before the reset

A model on another plan can take the task. OpenAI models run on your ChatGPT plan, not your Claude plan: connect it in Reason's web or Mac app, tell Reason the branch and what's next, and pick a GPT model until your Claude week resets.
