What the Grok Bot weekly limit covers

Each paid seat on The X Subscription gets one weekly pool for eligible first-party usage, shared across eligible Grok and Cursor surfaces rather than split into separate product quotas, and Grok Bot draws from that same pool. Third-party models in Cursor aren't part of the pool: they are paid Additional Usage. Your live usage view shows how much is used and the next reset date, and higher tiers include larger pools, so check each tier's included usage at x.ai/pricing.

The Grok Bot weekly limit resets once a week, on the next reset date your live usage view shows; xAI doesn't publish one reset day for everyone, so go by your own usage view. xAI's docs list no way to reset it early yourself: until then, Grok Bot keeps working only on prepaid credit for Additional Usage, on-demand usage on a legacy Cursor plan, or a bigger plan. What to do until your Grok Bot limit resets

  1. Find your reset date and time

Open Usage at grok.com/dashboard, or Settings → Usage & Billing in Grok Bot. The usage view shows how much of the weekly pool is used and the next reset date. On a legacy Cursor plan, check cursor.com/dashboard.

  2. Decide whether to wait

With no prepaid credit and no on-demand usage, Grok Bot stops when weekly usage runs out and resumes when it resets. If the reset is close, waiting costs nothing.

  3. Or keep going with a top-up

Usage past the weekly pool is Additional Usage, paid from prepaid credit. Buy credits under Additional usage credits on the billing page, and set a Monthly additional usage limit if you want a hard stop.

  4. Or move to a bigger plan

On the web, an upgrade to a higher tier starts immediately. xAI's docs don't say whether an upgrade mid-week changes what you have already used, so check your usage view after. On a legacy Cursor account with SuperGrok linked, allow up to 24 hours for the Weekly usage limit to move to the new tier.

  5. Keep coding work moving in the meantime

Open Reason on the web at reasonmachines.com, or in the Reason app for Mac, sign in and connect GitHub. Choose the repository and describe the task, for example "fix the failing tests". The session works in your repository on Reason's own cloud computer, runs the tests and opens a pull request, and it uses your Reason plan's credits, not your Grok weekly pool, so it keeps going whether or not Grok Bot has usage left. With Reason connected to Grok Bot, Grok Bot can also start a session for you; its own messages, including that one, still count toward the weekly pool.

Weekly limit maxed out over Halloween weekend (Oct 31–Nov 1, 2026)

TechCrunch reported on November 2, 2026 that over Halloween weekend some Grok Bot users found their weekly usage limit maxed out even though they hadn't used Grok Bot overnight, with some reporting on X that their usage jumped from as low as 50% to 100%.

According to TechCrunch, Elon Musk confirmed in an X post on Sunday, November 1, that this was not a glitch, replying to a user: "The cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue." TechCrunch adds that he has not yet shared how subscribers' usage limits will change going forward. xAI's Usage limits page still shows Last updated October 11, 2026, with no new pool sizes.

Times xAI reset everyone's limits

DateWhat @bot posted on X
October 2, 2026"We've reset usage limits for all Grok Bot users. Enjoy!"
August 26, 2026"All SuperGrok and Cursor Pro subscribers now have access to Grok Bot. We're also resetting weekly usage limits for all users."

These were one-off announcements, not a schedule. Your regular reset is the date in your own usage view.

Not the Weekly SuperGrok Limit

A Weekly SuperGrok Limit in the Grok chat app is a separate meter for a separate product. On a legacy plan, Grok Bot usage lives on your Cursor account and shows in Grok Bot under Settings → Usage & Billing, not in the Grok app.

Questions

Does Grok have a weekly limit now?

Yes. xAI's docs say each paid seat on The X Subscription gets a weekly pool for eligible first-party usage, shared across eligible Grok and Cursor surfaces, and Grok Bot draws from it too. Your live usage view shows how much is used and the next reset date.

Does Grok AI have a daily limit?

xAI documents a weekly pool per paid seat, and its Usage limits page doesn't describe a separate daily cap. Check your live usage view for how much of the pool is used and when it resets.

Did xAI lower the Grok Bot weekly limit?

TechCrunch reported on November 2, 2026 that over Halloween weekend some users' weekly usage jumped to 100%, some from as low as 50%, without using Grok Bot overnight, and that Elon Musk replied on X that it was not a glitch: "The cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue." TechCrunch says he has not yet shared how usage limits will change going forward, and xAI's Usage limits page still shows Last updated October 11, 2026.

How do I reset my Grok weekly limit?

You can't reset it yourself: xAI's docs list no early reset. It comes back on the reset date in your usage view. To keep working before then, add prepaid credit for Additional Usage or move to a bigger plan.

How long does Grok Bot limit reached last?

Until your next weekly reset, unless you add prepaid credit (or turn on on-demand usage on a legacy Cursor plan) or upgrade. Your usage view shows the reset date.

What time does the Grok Bot limit reset?

At the time your usage view shows, which belongs to your account rather than one global time. For example, one Cursor forum user's view read "resets Fri Nov 6, 2026 at 2:05 AM ET".

Does upgrading reset my Grok Bot usage?

xAI's docs say a web upgrade starts the higher tier immediately and that higher tiers include larger pools, but they don't say whether usage you already spent this week is cleared. Check the usage view after upgrading.

Does xAI ever reset everyone's limit?

It has: @bot announced resets for all users on August 26 and October 2, 2026. Those were one-off announcements, not a schedule.

Does handing work to Reason stop Grok Bot from using my weekly pool?

No. Grok Bot's own messages, including the one where it starts a Reason session, still draw from your Grok weekly pool. The coding work itself (reading the code, running builds and tests, opening the pull request) runs in the Reason session on Reason's cloud machine and uses your Reason plan's credits instead.

Is Reason made by xAI?

No. Grok Bot is a product of xAI. Reason is built by Reason Machines and is not affiliated with or endorsed by xAI. Limits and prices on this page come from xAI's own documentation; check it for changes.
