Why is Grok Bot usage at 100%?

Grok Bot usage reads 100% when your seat's weekly pool is used up, and it stays there until the reset date in your usage view. Why many meters jumped to 100% over Halloween weekend 2026, and what to do about it, has its own page; this tracker keeps the dated reports.

The latest Grok Bot usage limit news is from November 2, 2026, when TechCrunch, Forbes and TechRadar reported Elon Musk's comment that Grok Bot costs were "unsustainably high", after many users' weekly meters jumped to 100% on November 1 during a billing and usage dashboard incident; xAI hasn't published new pool sizes. Before that, The X Subscription put Grok Bot on one weekly pool shared with Grok and Cursor on October 12, 2026, and xAI reset everyone's limits on October 2 and August 26. Hit your limit? Check whether your Grok Bot limit changed

  1. Compare your usage view

Open Usage at grok.com/dashboard and note your plan, how much is used and the next reset date.

  2. Check xAI's usage-limits page and its date

xAI's Usage limits page shows a Last updated date at the bottom. A new date is the first sign the documented rules changed.

  3. Check the pricing page

x.ai/pricing lists each plan's included usage relative to Plus: Premium 4x, Super 15x and Ultra 50x as of November 1, 2026.

  4. Check xAI's status page

A sudden jump with no matching work may be an incident rather than a change. status.x.ai lists them.

November 2, 2026TechCrunch reports, in "Elon Musk throttles Grok Bot limits due to 'unsustainably high' costs", that over Halloween weekend some users' weekly usage limits were unexpectedly maxed out even when they hadn't used Grok Bot overnight, with some jumping from as low as 50% to 100%; that Musk confirmed in an X post on Sunday that this was not a glitch; and that he has not yet shared how subscribers' usage limits will be affected going forward. Business Insider reports, in "Elon Musk says 'unsustainably high' costs are the reason for Grok Bot usage limits", that Musk wrote this on X on Sunday after some users complained their weekly allowances were running out faster than usual, and that in another reply he called reducing allowances and communicating it to users "just being sensible." Forbes publishes "Elon Musk Says Grok Bot Costs Were 'Unsustainably High'". TechRadar reports, in "Elon Musk says Grok Bot was throttled because costs were 'unsustainably high', as users call the move a 'rug pull'", that Musk intentionally limited Grok Bot usage because of costs, quoting his reply that "The cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue." It cites X users whose usage jumped (50% to 100%, 35% to 78%, 70% to 100%) without using Grok Bot, and a Reddit thread calling the change an "indirect rug pull". xAI's official Usage limits page at docs.x.ai still shows Last updated October 11, 2026.TechCrunch; Business Insider; Forbes; TechRadar; docs.x.ai

Questions

Did Grok Bot usage limits change?

Not on paper as of November 1, 2026: xAI's usage-limits page was last updated October 11, 2026, and pricing still lists Premium at 4x, Super at 15x and Ultra at 50x Plus's usage. On November 1, meters jumped during a dashboard incident, and Elon Musk said serving Grok Bot cost too much relative to revenue.

When did xAI last reset Grok Bot limits for everyone?

On October 2, 2026, when @bot posted "We've reset usage limits for all Grok Bot users." The one before was on August 26, 2026.

When did Grok Bot move to a shared weekly pool?

With The X Subscription, introduced October 12, 2026: Grok Bot usage draws from each paid seat's weekly pool shared across Grok, Grok Bot and Cursor. Legacy Cursor and SuperGrok plans keep their own weekly limits until you switch.

Where does xAI announce limit changes?

In its docs at docs.x.ai (the Usage limits page shows a Last updated date), on x.ai/pricing, on the @bot account on X, and on status.x.ai for incidents.

Does handing work to Reason stop Grok Bot from using my weekly pool?

No. Grok Bot's own messages, including the one where it starts a Reason session, still draw from your Grok weekly pool. The coding work itself (reading the code, running builds and tests, opening the pull request) runs in the Reason session on Reason's cloud machine and uses your Reason plan's credits instead.

Is Reason made by xAI?

No. Grok Bot is a product of xAI. Reason is built by Reason Machines and is not affiliated with or endorsed by xAI. Limits and prices on this page come from xAI's own documentation; check it for changes.
