Prices and plans from each vendor's official pricing page or docs, checked Nov 5, 2026; US list prices. Sources are listed at the end of the page.
On GitHub itself, a Copilot plan also powers the Anthropic Claude and OpenAI Codex coding agents (public preview), and the Codex extension for VS Code has Sign in with Copilot on Copilot's $39 and Max plans.
Use your Copilot plan in Reason
Open Reason on the web or the Mac app
Sign in at reasonmachines.com, or download the Reason app for macOS from reasonmachines.com/download. Both open the same Sessions. Sending work to Reason needs a Pro or Max plan.
Connect GitHub Copilot
Open Settings › Models and, under Subscriptions, choose GitHub Copilot. Enter the code GitHub shows you to sign in with an account on Copilot Pro or a higher paid plan, Business or Enterprise. Copilot Free and Student plans aren't supported.
Connect your other plans and keys
In the same Subscriptions list, connect Claude (Pro or Max), Grok (SuperGrok or X Premium+) or GitHub Copilot too, and add API keys under API keys. Work on your own accounts is billed by that provider, not in Reason credits.
Pick the model per task
In the composer, choose the model for the Session. Each Session shows the model and account it ran on, so you can see which plan did the work.
Keep going at a limit
When the account a turn runs on hits its limit, Reason moves the turn to your other connected accounts for that provider, then to Reason credits if your workspace can pay, and says so in the conversation.
Where a Copilot subscription works
| Where | Copilot plan? | From the docs |
|---|---|---|
| Claude coding agent on GitHub | Yes, public preview | Built on the Claude Agent SDK and powered by your Copilot subscription; enabled in account, organization or enterprise settings |
| Codex coding agent on GitHub | Yes, public preview | Built on the Codex SDK and powered by your Copilot subscription |
| Codex extension for VS Code | $39 plan and Max | Sign in with Copilot is available on Copilot's $39 and Max plans |
| Claude Code | No | Signs in with Claude plans, Claude Console or a cloud provider; no Copilot sign-in |
| Cursor | No | Cursor's plans or your own OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Azure or Bedrock key |
| opencode | Yes | GitHub device sign-in; some models need a plan above Pro |
| Reason | Pro and up, Business, Enterprise | GitHub device sign-in, beside ChatGPT, Claude and Grok plans and API keys |
From GitHub's and each vendor's docs, checked Nov 2, 2026. On GitHub, the Claude and Codex agents use GitHub Actions minutes and Copilot AI credits; the Student plan excludes third-party agents.
What a Copilot plan includes
| Plan | Price | AI credits a month |
|---|---|---|
| Copilot Free | $0 | Auto model selection only; 2,000 completions |
| Copilot Pro | $10 a month | 1,500 |
| Copilot $39 plan | $39 a month | 7,000, with premium models |
| Copilot Max | $100 a month | 20,000 |
| Copilot Business | $19 per seat a month | 1,900 |
| Copilot Enterprise | $39 per seat a month | 3,900 |
GitHub prices an AI credit at $0.01, and included credits don't carry over between months. Copilot Chat, Copilot CLI, the cloud agent and third-party coding agents use credits; code completions on paid plans don't. Claude Opus and Fable models are on the $39 and Max plans, not Pro.
What people on Reddit say
A Reddit thread on the same question, read in full:
In an r/GithubCopilot thread from March 2026 comparing Claude Code's $20 plan with Copilot, several replies, the top one included, say Claude Pro's limits run out fast on Opus, while others say Copilot went further per dollar for long agent runs, back when it billed per request; Copilot now bills in AI credits. Several people pay for both: Copilot for bulk implementation, Claude Code for planning and debugging.
Reason: all your AI subscriptions in one coding agent
Use the subscriptions you already pay for (ChatGPT, Claude, SuperGrok/X Premium+, Copilot) or your own API keys in one coding agent. Hit your limit and Reason keeps going on your other connected accounts or Reason credits.
On cost: in Reason's published benchmark on GPT-6 Astra at xhigh effort, with the same tasks and graders, Reason 1.1 scored 65.1 against Codex's 62.5 on Coding Agent Index v1.5, at 22% lower cost per solved task. That's Reason's benchmark of its own harness, with the runner published to reproduce it.

Questions
Can I use my Copilot subscription in Claude Code?
Not in Claude Code itself, which signs in with a Claude plan, the Claude Console or a cloud provider. On GitHub, though, Copilot can power Anthropic's Claude coding agent, in public preview.
Can I use my Copilot subscription in Codex?
Yes, in two places: the Codex coding agent on GitHub (public preview), and Sign in with Copilot in OpenAI's Codex extension for VS Code, on Copilot's $39 and Max plans.
Can I use my Copilot subscription in Cursor?
No. Cursor uses its own plans or your own API keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Azure or Bedrock.
Which Copilot plans work in Reason?
Copilot Pro and the paid plans above it, Business and Enterprise. Copilot Free and Student plans aren't supported.
What happens in Reason when I hit my plan's limit?
Hit your limit? Reason keeps going on your other connected accounts or Reason credits. The turn moves to your other connected accounts for the same provider, then to Reason credits if your workspace can pay, and the conversation says which account it continued on.
Is Reason affiliated with OpenAI, Anthropic or GitHub?
No. Reason is built by Reason Machines and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI, Anthropic, GitHub, Anysphere or xAI. Facts about their products come from their own docs, linked under Sources.
Is using a Copilot proxy with Claude Code allowed?
Anthropic doesn't support it. Community guides route Claude Code through a local proxy to a Copilot plan, but Anthropic's gateway docs don't list Copilot and say non-Claude models aren't supported through a gateway. Agents that sign in to Copilot directly, such as opencode, Aider and Reason, avoid the workaround.
How much does GitHub Copilot cost?
Free, then Pro $10, a $39 plan and Max $100 a month, and Business $19 per seat. Chat and agent work is billed in GitHub AI Credits.
