The main Devin alternatives are Reason, Codex cloud, Claude Code on the web, Cursor's Cloud Agents, GitHub Copilot's cloud agent and Google's Jules, plus OpenHands if you want to self-host an open-source one. Like Devin, each takes a task, works in its own cloud environment and hands back a change, and they differ in models, Slack and schedules, and price.

Try a Devin alternative on a real task

  1. Open Reason on the web or the Mac app

Sign in at reasonmachines.com, or download the Reason app for macOS from reasonmachines.com/download. Both open the same Sessions. Sending work to Reason needs a Pro or Max plan.

  2. Connect GitHub

In Customize, open GitHub and choose Connect GitHub, then pick the repositories Reason may work in. Reason opens pull requests from its own branches; your branch protection and required checks still apply.

  3. Give it a task you know the answer to

In the composer, name the repository and paste a task you've already solved, such as a failing test. Reason works on its own cloud computer, runs the tests and opens a pull request, so you can compare its diff with your other agent's.

  4. Keep it working when you're away

Mention Reason in Slack to hand it a task from a thread, and set up a Loop for work that repeats, such as a nightly dependency check. Its Sessions run on Reason's cloud computers, so they keep going with your laptop closed.

From each vendor's own pages, checked Nov 2, 2026. For reference, Devin has a free tier, Pro at $20 and Max at $200 a month, and Teams at $80 a month plus $40 per developer seat; it takes tasks from Slack and Teams and works in a workspace with a shell, IDE and browser.

Which alternative for which reason

Self-host and open source: OpenHands (MIT) runs locally by default, with schedules and Slack. Already on ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor: their cloud agents (Codex cloud, Claude Code on the web, Cursor Cloud Agents) keep working with your laptop closed. On GitHub: Copilot's cloud agent researches, plans and implements changes in the background.

What people on Reddit say

A Reddit thread on the same question, read in full:

In a small r/LLMDevs thread from April 2026 on running Claude Code unattended from task to pull request, the replies agree on the same pattern: run the agent in an isolated devcontainer, make CI the hard gate for tests and screenshots before a person sees the pull request, and give the agent narrow permissions so it can't touch secrets or delete containers.

Reason: all your AI subscriptions in one coding agent

Use the subscriptions you already pay for (ChatGPT, Claude, SuperGrok/X Premium+, Copilot) or your own API keys in one coding agent. Hit your limit and Reason keeps going on your other connected accounts or Reason credits.

Reason is an always-on teammate that is also a coding agent: its own cloud computer per Session, memory across Sessions, Loops and Slack, with the model picked per task. Work that runs on your own subscription or API key is billed by that provider and keeps its limits; Reason's plans are Pro at $50 and Max at $200 a month, with no free plan, and it isn't open source.

Questions

What is the best alternative to Devin?

It depends on where you already are: Codex cloud on ChatGPT plans, Claude Code on the web on Claude plans, Cursor Cloud Agents on Cursor Premium and higher, and Copilot's cloud agent on GitHub. Reason works across those model accounts, with Slack and Loops.

Is there an open-source Devin?

OpenHands is the closest: MIT-licensed, self-hosted by default, with automations on a schedule or webhooks and Slack. OpenHands Cloud is its commercial hosted option.

Is Devin worth the price?

Devin has a free tier and a $20 Pro plan, so you can try it on real work before paying more. Compare it with an agent you already pay for on the same task.

Can Codex or Jules replace Devin?

For tasks that run in a cloud environment and return a change, yes: Codex cloud tasks keep working while your computer sleeps, and Jules runs tasks in a cloud VM. Devin adds Slack and Teams, Linear and Jira out of the box.

What does Reason cost?

Pro is $50 a month and Max $200 a month per person, with usage measured in credits; top-ups keep work going when a week's usage runs out. Models you run on your own connected subscriptions or API keys are billed by that provider and keep that provider's limits.

Is Reason affiliated with these vendors?

No. Reason is built by Reason Machines and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic, OpenAI, Anysphere, Cognition, GitHub, Google or xAI. Facts about their products come from their own pages, linked under Sources.

How much does Devin cost?

Free, Pro $20 a month, Max $200 a month, and Teams at $80 a month plus $40 per seat, per Devin's pricing page. Extra usage is billed at API pricing.

Is there an open-source alternative to Devin?

OpenHands is MIT-licensed and free to self-host with your own LLM key; its Teams plan is $500 a month for up to 10 users.

Can Claude Code work in the cloud like Devin?

Yes. Claude Code's cloud sessions keep running after you close your laptop, count toward your plan's limits, and have no separate charge for the VM.
